Still Life Photography
(Straight edit) trio of frisbees |
(Plastic Wrap) Brand New?For my first still life I took pictures of frisbees I had in my room. I chose it because it was one of the first things I saw in my room when I thought of the project. But I also chose it because I have been playing ultimate for a very long time and it is part of childhood. When I was taking the pictures I wanted to make sure the background was very neutral. So I used my all black shelf and white walls to make sure the background was neutral.

(Palette Knife) leaning trio(Straight edit) Old to the newFor my second still life I chose a group of old boxes I had. I have been saving and collecting these technology boxes for a couple years now. To me it represents my increased interest in technology as I got older. When taking these picture I wanted to make the background neutral to emphasize the objects. I also made sure to position the boxes in unique and different ways for example a tower and a leaning at an angle.

For my third still life I chose some books I had. These books are important and always on display in my room so they caught my eye. This series was one of the if not the first series I ever read with my mom so it is important to me. When taking these photos I wanted to emphasize the color and design of each books cover. SO in every photo I made sure you could at least see 1 books cover.

(Colored Pencil) Stack of novels |
(Smudge Stick) Horizontal tips of color |
(Rough Pastels) Vertical Tips of ColorFor my fourth still life I chose colored pencils. I saw these on my desk after making a birthday card for a family member. To me these remind me of birthdays since I usually only take them out for making cards. when I took these photos I chose to use more of a tan background. I avoided the black and white background when displaying other specific colors but still kept the neutral background.

Straight Edit (circle of toys)For my fifth and final still life I found some toy cars I used to play with as a kid. When the still life project first came up I immediately thought of toy cars for some reason. Plus having used them a lot when I was younger, I had a special connection. I also thought it was worth including both these and technology boxes because of how it represents the switch to from toy cars to phones. I used a neutral background but also wanted to include an up-close picture to make the cars feel real life sized.
